||||||||| Tweeny leaves to catch the 8:00 PM train to Funfun Town.
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, January 29, 2026 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| Deputy Dang tiptoes in around 8:00 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last night's "unpleasant incident."
||||||||| Catherwood ushers cease inside, makes a note of the time (8:00 PM), then fades off into the distance going on about the waiting room or the sitting room or something.
cease: God dang it.
||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
Deputy Dang: Howdy, cease!
cease: Bozos indeed
cease: clue clowns indeed
cease: cluelss
cease: my usual typing inadequacies
Deputy Dang: If only we had some clues, and not just clowns.
cease: i think there was a board game long ago called Clue
Deputy Dang: They even made a movie based on the game, and there were different endings, depending on which theatre you saw it.
cease: i dont think i've played a boardgame in 60 years
||||||||| Catherwood stumbles in and snorts derisively "Presenting 'llanwydd', just granted probation at 8:00 PM", then leaves hurriedly.
llanwydd: hi
cease: llan
Deputy Dang: Howdy, llanwydd!
llanwydd: maybe 30 for me.
llanwydd: trivial pursuit
||||||||| Mutt tiptoes in around 8:00 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last week's "unpleasant incident."
cease: the muttman cometh
llanwydd: howdy mutt
Mutt: Howdy gentle-peoples!
cease: a long time ago on chat, a former chatter named Bunnyboy reccommended a new book called The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
cease: I'm reading it now. It's fantastic.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "...And no Buddhist writers either!"
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Mutt!
Mutt: Michael Chabon. Terrific writer. Try The Yiddish Policeman’s Union next - amazing.
Mutt: Hey DD!
cease: will do.
cease: I read an article in the NYR about an opera based on the book and it made me want to read the book.
cease: The mother of this chat, Elayne, is WAY into comics and her husband draws them
Mutt: Chabon is something, all right. Wonderful imagination.
cease: Always delighted to discover new author, new to me.
cease: Reminds me a bit of the Brazillian author Jorge Amado. one of my faves
Mutt: First book of his that I read was Yiddish Policeman’s Union. The review in the local newspaper was enough to get me interested. It did not disappoint .
cease: will read it anon
cease: ive only read 1/3 of K&C.
Mutt: You are in for a real treat with both that and the one you are currently reading.
cease: cats like treats
Mutt: Here mousey mousey …
cease: i recall in interview with austin where he talks about the use of the word coke here, and anyone would think it was anything but cocaine
Mutt: I didn’t even know what cocaine was when I first heard this album.
cease: you're a bit younger
Mutt: I was around 12-13 (1974)
cease: i was when it came out in 71. i had just moved to japan and my friend sent me the album.
cease: born in 1951
Mutt: Dwarf from local library was my baptism. From there it’s bozos all the way down.
cease: lol
cease: i am from the pre-album era. i recorded some of the mushroom plays you here on the cd set
cease: llan? dasng?
Mutt: Yes you did and thus saved them from oblivion
cease: also the lasdt 6 hour hours
Deputy Dang: I'm younger and knew both meanings of the word coke, and thought it was clever wordplay.
llanwydd: ?
cease: it was indeedd, dang
Mutt: I only thought of the beverage and the steel-making kind of coke.
llanwydd: dasng is an indonesian appetizer, isn't it?
Mutt: Wasn’t until later that I clued in
cease: i hope what austin meant by his pique was that it was a pun should be obvious
Mutt: Llan: lol!
cease: nasi goring, never boring.
Mutt: Now, that gag I did get XD
cease: i love how her forgtets the word memory here
cease: my memoruy too, suddenly goes to sleep.
Mutt: It’s all in the mind
cease: we sleep more and more and then don't awaken.
Mutt: We live on a dormant planet. Life is mainly about being asleep. - Sergey Melnikov (evolutionary molecular biologist, Newcastle University)
Mutt: That’s a quote of his. Great stuff
llanwydd: life is but a dream
cease: no, but life includes dreams
Mutt: Dreams all the way diwn, and up
llanwydd: I wonder
cease: i thikn of the amount of knowledge that has happened in my life time, i have no worries of the future
cease: i love this ending
Deputy Dang: I use that phrase, "Well worth a dollar" a lot, but nobody recognizes it. They sometimes think it's from The Running Man movie, which had a catch phrase of "I'd buy that for a dollar!"
llanwydd: great album!
Mutt: It is brilliant the rooes creaking.
Deputy Dang: I also love this ending.
Mutt: ropes
llanwydd: this one is really funny
Mutt: Keep him strong, Manny!
llanwydd: we are supposed to have record cold weather here in FL tonighr
llanwydd: tonight
Deputy Dang: Sheesh! I just got that "Like and Dick, I traced the call" wordplay with Dick Tracy.
Deputy Dang: "Like any dick..."
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "He can shout, don't hear you."
Mutt: Ilove it DD!
Mutt: Just checked temp here in Merryland - 18
llanwydd: holy cow
Mutt: Hasn’t been above 25 in over a week. Lows at night of 5 or less
Mutt: Personnaly, I am done with it. Let’s mkve on, shall we?
cease: van is warmish by comparison
cease: at least we have hearting, unlike many in Ukraine now
Mutt: Indeed. My heart breaks for everyone there.
cease: i'm trhying to get my play fiished. llan plays einstein in it.
cease: it is a play that i think will contribute to ukraine.
Deputy Dang: I remember my mother showing/teaching me how to darn socks when I was a wee lad. I've never done it.
cease: me too, dang
llanwydd: cat, I am still trying to learn how to send sound files on my new computer. it is rather confusing
Mutt: I still darn mine, i admit. Old habits
cease: take your time llan. your lines are far from done.
cease: i'm not sure how many people wil need intros from you and how many can go from one to another
llanwydd: i get it
cease: i'm stil writing the parts, but thaknkfully, the actor i most needed wil be in town tomorwwo so i should have some forward momentum
cease: i hpoe to have Smetana done by the spring. Tweem is supporsed to produce.
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Mutt: Well, gotta go and deal with life stuff. Thanks Tween, Cat, DD and Llan! Have a great week and stay warm
||||||||| Mutt leaves at 8:00 PM, singing "Oh, I'm just a little fishy, floating in the sea, and there ain't no hook that's smart enough to catch the likes of me..."
cease: b y mutgt
cease: this is so profound. from 30 years ago
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Duluth? Bucko, you can get Tierra del Fuego!"
Deputy Dang: Do people even know what HoJo is any more?
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "This is W.A.L.T.E.R ... this is W.A.L.T.E.R. ..."
cease: howard johnsons?
cease: good riff on that in Billy the Mountain
cease: in search of transcendence. i just watched interview and he was way into that.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "What you don't mean won't hurt you."
cease: George Harrison. he's a character in my play
cease: this is an amazing collage
||||||||| "8:00 PM? 8:00 PM!!" says Catherwood, "Airzats should be here by now...oh, THERE you are!" as Airzats enters and sits in the comfy chair.
Deputy Dang: I'm enjoying it very much.
cease: Welcome Arz
Deputy Dang: Yeah, Howard Johnsons.
cease: I dont think I ever was in one, but I knew they existed
cease: Firesign fan, Air?
Deputy Dang: Where's your brother?
cease: that is not a problem
cease: inadequateluy stoned,
cease: leon russel, stones
cease: fuck this is a good collage
cease: a litle over a year ago, i had a strange interactin with ms slick. made a collage out of it.
cease: but she sure could sing
cease: "you don't need us" is the best.
cease: what brings you here, Air?
cease: sometimes people wandsr in here by mistake
Deputy Dang: I think I remember you chatting something about Grace Slick, but I don't remember any details.
cease: yeah she reached out to be via emaiil. stranger than shit
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "It's a beautiful car friends, with doors to match!"
Deputy Dang: They might have tuned in with their phone. This chat isn't very phone-friendly.
cease: makes sense
Deputy Dang: This is a good medley.
cease: frfom Ossman" Radio, any questions? I lvie show he did in seattle
||||||||| It's 1:45 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Airzats - dead from pneumonia
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
cease: they come, they go
Deputy Dang: Didn't drink enough coffee
cease: i drank coffee briefly, 59-60
cease: i discovered tea in 1960 and stuck to it ever since
Deputy Dang: I drink decaf coffee, but I'm not sure why. I drank tea for most of 2025.
Deputy Dang: One reason the AI data centers are in remote areas is that there are fewer people to protest the environmental damage. Fewer folks to bribe, and for less money, too!
cease: true, dang
cease: new show next week.
Deputy Dang: Great collages, Cat! Most excellent!
llanwydd: great show!
llanwydd: thanks tween and cat
Deputy Dang: I see... you are... a sailor...
cease: that was surprisingly good.
cease: good stuff next week too.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "It goes in - it must come out."
Deputy Dang: Goodnight, all! I'll be back next week!
llanwydd: looking forward to it
||||||||| Deputy Dang is defenestrated just as the clock strikes 8:00 PM.
llanwydd: nite everybody
||||||||| llanwydd says "Catherwood, call me a cab." After the obvious joke, llanwydd exits at 8:00 PM.
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 2 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| It's 2:15 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| cease - dead from intense demonic possession
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| Catherwood enters, and announces to all and sundry "It's 4:31 AM, time to change the log file and clean out unused rooms; please exit the chat room for a minute or two. Thank you for your patience."
