||||||||| Around 8:00 PM, Tweeny walks off into the sunset...
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, August 07, 2025 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| "8:00 PM? 8:00 PM!!" says Catherwood, "Synthwiz should be here by now...oh, THERE you are!" as Synthwiz enters and sits on the couch.
||||||||| It's 10:45 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Synthwiz - dead from dengue fever
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| Catherwood escorts AndroidTweeny inside, makes a note of the time (8:00 PM), then fades off into the distance going on about the waiting room or the sitting room or something.
||||||||| "8:00 PM? 8:00 PM!!" says Catherwood, "DJTweeny should be here by now...oh, THERE you are!" as DJTweeny enters and sits on the divan.
||||||||| Catherwood trudges in at 8:00 PM, dragging Deputy Dang by one foot and asks "Can anyone vouch for this yahoo?"
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Tweenies!
DJTweeny: Howdy Deputy :)
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Deputy Dang: Synthwiz?
DJTweeny: whoever he was...
||||||||| Catherwood escorts Beet inside, makes a note of the time (8:00 PM), then fades off into the distance going on about the waiting room or the sitting room or something.
Beet: Howdy, Folks.
DJTweeny: Yo Beet
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Beet!
DJTweeny: This is from when we still had 'warm up music'
Deputy Dang: Before they changed the water!
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Cease close behind, mumbles something about disrupting his 8:00 PM tree-stunting plans, and dashes off to the anteroom.
DJTweeny: yy
DJTweeny: allo Cease
Beet: Hey, Tweeny, Deputy, Android
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Cease!
Cease: HI gang
Beet: Hi, Cease.
Cease: The Tween Voice
Cease: I had a SF play done on this programme in Aug, 1972.
Cease: No Ice. How appropriate. Anyone see yesterday's South Park?
Cease: A soul Never liked that idea.
Cease: Leviton is a Facebook friend. It turns out he was very involved with the Firesigns
Cease: This is the best review of a Firesign album I've ever encountered.
DJTweeny: Cease: No Ice. How appropriate. Anyone see yesterday's South Park? << Haven't watched TV in many many years
Cease: Originally in the NY world's fair, before it moved to Disneyland
Cease: I couldn't watch TV in Japan because I didn't understand enough japanese. Spent a long time in that situation.
Cease: Since returning from Japan in 88, I try and make up for my loss.
Cease: Presenting visual material on a record. That's what I try to do, with much help from producers
DJTweeny: I had the original vinyl with the fold-out diorama
DJTweeny: was a pretty good idea to present the album that way
Cease: me too
Beet: I still have my copy in storage.
Cease: wow
Beet: It is one of my faves.
Cease: ossman sounds so much younger here. of course, it's from 52 years ago.
Cease: it's wonderful!
DJTweeny: Tempis Fugit... (Latin for Time Flies ;)
DJTweeny: and yeah, hard to believe how the decades have passed
DJTweeny: Things that happened 40 years ago seem like yesterday to me
Deputy Dang: This is really great!
Cease: Harry's previous wife
||||||||| llanwydd steals in around 8:00 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last night's "unpleasant incident."
Deputy Dang: Howdy, llanwydd!
Cease: Hey llan!
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Why does the porridge bird lay his egg in the air?"
llanwydd: anybody here or is it just us?
Cease: how many of us are there?
Beet: Hi, llan.
Cease: harry sounds only a little younger than he does now on Le Show
llanwydd: we are all here but we are not all there
llanwydd: forty years ago I was getting into the fishing business
llanwydd: I worked on lobster boats in rhode island
Cease: is it still fishy? working for scale?
llanwydd: lol
DJTweeny: Hey llan, hope you're healing well :)
llanwydd: when I wasnt on the boats I was cooking lobster on the wharf for a seafood company
Cease: did you tire of lobster?
llanwydd: I am doing very well, tweeny. thanks for asking
DJTweeny: mmmmmmm, lobster
Cease: the original tweeny!
llanwydd: I have never tired of lobster but I have retired from it
llanwydd: professonally
llanwydd: but I am proud to say I have never worn a lobster bib nor will I ever
Cease: lobster with melted butter and fresh lime. divine
llanwydd: how time flys is a work of genius
llanwydd: never tried lime with it
Cease: try it
Beet: Truly so.
Cease: i am constantly experimenting with mixing fruit and protein.
llanwydd: always lemon. but I will try lime
Cease: found some new berrys called Haskap berrys at local store last week.
Cease: a cross between blueberry and raspberry. originally from Hokkaido. i lived there in 76 but never enountered them there.
Cease: anyway, they are wonderful with pork and chicken. this morning i tried them with poached pear.
llanwydd: not native to nippon I am sure
llanwydd: I mean bloobs and raspbs
llanwydd: one of my very favorite ways of mixing fruit and protein is lime juice in cottage cheese
Cease: https://www.haskapa.com/pages/top-ten-haskap-berry-facts?srsltid=AfmBOorIYOKZc-Z8wBq2YdrG1sV2Rfh8tCHXOPE0Sw0BllsCdm_J0_W7
llanwydd: thanks for the link
Cease: Blue boobs? Where's Capt Kirk?
llanwydd: ?
Cease: one of his space lovers was blue-skinned.
llanwydd: I think I remember that
Cease: is that nixon?
Cease: ausitn loved doing nixon
Deputy Dang: didn't we all?
llanwydd: I remember tween once saying he found the fixture of fruit and meat unpalatable
llanwydd: mixture
Cease: i've never had any skill doing other people's voices. Doc Tech is Very good at that.
Cease: Harry Shearer is the master
llanwydd: yes I remember austin on lawyers hospital doing nixon
Cease: did i tell y'all my harry shearer story?
Cease: i was in LA recording Neal Amid. I was buying tape at a store in santa monica and there was harry, so i began talking to him.
llanwydd: I remember vaguely
Cease: i told him i was recoring proctor as jack benny. harry said, I could do a much better benny than proctor
Cease: he was on the bennny show as a kid.
Cease: i said, true, but I'd have to Pay you.
llanwydd: lol
Cease: Neal Amid was actually brought into existence by Melinda and the 2 Phils.
llanwydd: I dont remember proctor doing jack benny. was that on neal amid?
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Open up, your door knocker fell off!"
llanwydd: I have heard neal amid many times but I dont remember jack benny
Cease: it's kind of in the background but i too forget where, and it's My play.
Cease: speaking of background, I was just watching Nashville.
Cease: I surfe wish i had some company and some good dope
Cease: i lvoe altman
llanwydd: I occasionally drifted off to sleep listening to neal amid and sometimes slip gently back into conciousness hearing the voice of edgar cayce
Cease: altman's soundscapes. want to try and use that technique on my new play, though it's much easier to do in a flick than in audio
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Everyone knew her as Nancy."
Cease: doing lots of writing on new play, tween. imaging a totally dif world. i asked chat gtp how the world would be now if there hadn't been ww2 and the take-out from chat was that the us would be much diminished. that would seem to indicate an american bias for the programme.
llanwydd: I got about halfway through nashville. I had ought to try watching it again
Cease: llan, i should have a bunch of lines for you by september.
Cease: i loathe country music, but the flick is great, on tv, as i can mute the music.
llanwydd: cool
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "They had to come from small towns with strange names."
Cease: some film critic i follow said it was his fave flick so i got it from the library.
llanwydd: the only country music I really like is the little of it recorded by bob dylan
Cease: same era as Chinatown, which i just rewatched in order to produce that collage featuring faye dunwaway's husband
llanwydd: definitely an iconic film
DJTweeny: Cease: i loathe country music << apparently Austin didn't ;)
Cease: i lvoe a johnny cash song called Get Rythym, but only the Ry Cooder version. this cash version is imppossible to listen to.
DJTweeny: did some wonderful parodies :)
Cease: yeah, austin's country album is fine with me, cuz it's fucking Austin!
Cease: he grew up in Freson and I suspect there was a lot of country music on his local radio
llanwydd: funny that his local radio also broadcast the goon show
Cease: i think that was network.
llanwydd: not how I remember the story
Cease: local fresno stations in the mid 50s would have been country stations, as this was reallyu berfore rock became a radio format.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Scene 3 - Take 600"
Cease: my family was in the car driving around california and other places throughout the 50s-60s
Cease: i dont recall hearing a rock station in LA before the lae 50s
Cease: of course, my memory of 70 years ago has holes in it.
||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
Beet: Eternal Return.
Cease: one of the best albums ever made.
Cease: the original meow wolf thing i visited in Santa Fe last year is called House of Eternal Return.
Cease: a hamster dies, then is brought back to life eternally. then something odd happens to the humans in the house.
Beet: Creepy
Cease: better idea than realization. people told me it was the best meow wolf i;ve been to 3. no, i thought the vegas one was the best.
Cease: but meow wolf Started in Santa Fe. i could not believe a city of 90,00 could have an art collective of 300 untile i went there.
Beet: I love this bit.
Cease: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGTHrUcp_G4
Cease: I did at least 3 collages based on Meow Wolf
Cease: i has the same reaction to meow wolf vegas as i did to firesign in 67 when they first appeared on la radio.
llanwydd: I believe I was in the first grade that year
Cease: i had been writing plays since 59 and the Firesign's were So Much Beter than mine, I wantred to get together with those gusy and get better.
Cease: That actually happened 30 years later with Neal Amid
llanwydd: great when a longime ambition is realized. I have had that experience
Cease: 67 was a great year for me. expo 67 and travelling accross canada to the tunes of sgt pepper.
llanwydd: longtime
Cease: this is a great version of the album piece.
Cease: ossman interviewed ginzberg in 1960. i used that in a couple of collages
Cease: the anti-intellectually of the hippies was always what kept me from being a hippy.
Beet: I had a wide array of hippie friends from the intellectuals to just the fun seekers.
Cease: i like long hair. useful in canada. i like the music and the thc, but unlike the beats, who were intenselyu literate, the hippies were not. kind of anti-science.
Beet: Were Beatles hippies?
llanwydd: no they were beatles
llanwydd: the hippies copied them
Cease: grass is probably a better drug than alchohol for group beneficience, booze has a greater possibilty of antagonism, even violence. stoned people doh;'t get intto physical fights
Beet: interesting.
Cease: well said, llan
Cease: that's just my exerience. i havne't spent much time in bars in decades.
Cease: and my experience of bars in europe, japan, the us and canada are all quite different.
Cease: Firesign did several of these flicks. their dialogue to old flicks
Cease: HOtg Shortrs is a good combination.
Cease: J-Men Forever the most famous of those
llanwydd: I have seen hot shorts. hilarious
Cease: yes and no, llan. how many drugs were you on at the time?
Cease: just heard interview with a guy who wrote bio of band guy, killed himself. the guy, not the biographyer
Cease: heroin destroyged the band, and many other great muscians.
Cease: i'm as greedy as the next SAG member
||||||||| Outside, the 8:00 PM downtown bus from Funfun Town pulls away, leaving Tweeny coughing in a cloud of diesel fumes.
Cease: which tween is leaving?
Tweeny: So Cat, do you want a replay next week of the show that came after this which had part two of autobozographical?
Cease: not infrequently, people show up here at the end of the chat.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Everyone knew her as Nancy."
Cease: oh, that's a good idea, tween.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "What's all this brou-ha-ha?"
Tweeny: Not Insane opens that show
Cease: i really don't have any new ideas for collages as im primarily working on cresating scnees for my new play. promised llan i'd have his main role, as the chancellor of germany, by sept.
Cease: ok, not insane is occasionally good.
Cease: but we are into quantiyt as opposed to quality in this show.
Cease: there arfe hundreds of hours of firesign in total.
Tweeny: OK, we'll complete the autobozographical bit next week then
Cease: the talkng over each other reminded me of the Talking Over Each Other things they did for KBOO.their last performance before bergman died
Cease: let's plays that the following week, eh?
Tweeny: You want something else next week?
Cease: Nashville and altman in general is a soundscape of people talking here and there that forces you to listen
Tweeny: or did you mean you want Talking Over Each Other for the following week?
Cease: no, tween. part 2 is required. but then let's go through the Talking Over Each Other stuff. I want to contact KBOO
Tweeny: OK, sounds good
Cease: yes. the following week.l should be able to create sometihng new by then.
Cease: How's it going, Beet?
Beet: I'm recovering from a hernia operation.
Beet: Not a lot of fun.
llanwydd: I can imagine
Cease: Heal as quickly as you can
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "What's it all about, Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Smith from Anytown, USA?"
Beet: Thanks, Cease.
Cease: We are a small community. And shrinking.
Cease: We msut suffer for art. He suffered for us.
Cease: lol
Beet: You would think that the Universe would have treated all of this better.
Cease: i dont' think the universe cares.
llanwydd: art bell? carney? garfunkel?
Cease: sounds like dorothy parker
Beet: Apparently not
Cease: opne of my wife's friends daughters is an artist and her husand is a musician. they're younger than my cloths
Beet: Nice combination.
Cease: but anyway, do you think Firesign can appeal to young people?
llanwydd: you must have some really tatty cloths
Cease: i have grand daughters slightly younger than them, just graduated from high school very smart ladied but firesign is beyond them
Tweeny: a lot of Fireseign references the cultures of the times when they made the albums, so some of it wouldn't be understandable to young people
Cease: not really, llan.
Cease: good point tween.
Beet: I'm re viewing an old BBC crime series with Robbie Coltrane called, "Cracker". Really good.
llanwydd: I am afraid the spirit of firesign is not relevant to these ignorant millenials
Cease: i was annoyed by that at the time.
Cease: llan. the millenials are not all ignortant. my grand daughters are very intelliggbn3t, but the world has changed
llanwydd: I know. I was joking
Beet: When we were introduced to Firesign, we still remembered what Radio was like.
llanwydd: but millenials can probably gather about half of the meaning of fst as opposed to lifetime fans
Cease: radio was a major part of my life as a toddler.
Cease: my cousin opened a startion in my home town the year before i was born. when my parents endllesly travellved, radio was so much more interesting than their endless drivel.
Tweeny: Thanks for listening, all...
llanwydd: cool
Deputy Dang: Thanks Tweeny! Thanks Cat!
llanwydd: thanks tween and cat
Beet: Lots of fun. See everyone next week. G'Nite.
Cease: partr 2 of this next week. see y'all then

Tweeny: Everybody have be well and have a great week...
llanwydd: you too. nite everybody
||||||||| At 8:00 PM, llanwydd vanishes mysteriously -- just as Nino the Mind Boggler predicted!
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Tweeny: Until last time, again...
||||||||| Tweeny departs at 8:00 PM, singing "Toad away, toad away; toad away, toad away! Where do you go when you're toad away?"
||||||||| It's 1:15 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Cease - dead from Globner's disease
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
