||||||||| Catherwood announces, "The time is 4:32 AM - I now declare Thursday's chat log for July 13, 2023 officially open!"... and then, he retires back to the vestibule...
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, July 13, 2023 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| With a theatrical clearing of his throat, Catherwood pipes up: "8:00 PM and late as usual, it's Tweeny, just back from Hellmouth."
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 10 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| With a theatrical clearing of his throat, Catherwood snorts derisively: "8:00 PM and late as usual, it's Rufus_T_Firetween, just back from Elmertown."

DJTweeny: 102 feels like 112 here
DJTweeny: they're talkig about real temps of 108 in the coming days
DJTweeny: *talking
johan amadeus myjetski: i don't miss those numbers at all. we're complaining about high 80s
johan amadeus myjetski: i remember what those temps feel like, though, common for Memphis this time of the year
||||||||| Catherwood escorts Termite into the room, accepts a $3 bill as a gratuity, mutters something about 8:00 PM, then departs.
johan amadeus myjetski: hi termite!
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "I have proof I've been to ancient Greece, look at this grape!"
Termite: Hello there, and pardon me while I lurk....
Tweeny: Hi Termite
johan amadeus myjetski: that grape from ancient remeinds me - i rewatched the Rod Taylor 1960 Time aMachine today
DJTweeny: Lurk away...
DJTweeny: I like that version of the movie
DJTweeny: He was also really good in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds
johan amadeus myjetski: got the dvd today. filling a big hole in my collection, or so i feel...
DJTweeny: Saw it first run in the theater way back then
johan amadeus myjetski: i have the Birds, or as the Stoogeas say it, da Boyds
DJTweeny: heh
johan amadeus myjetski: on the big screen it was even more terrifying, if anything
johan amadeus myjetski: the Birds is another example of an earlyelectronic soundtrack
DJTweeny: I don't think I saw The Birds in the theatre, but I did see The Time Machine
||||||||| A time machine materializes at 8:00 PM and Cease steps out, carrying a grape from ancient Greece.
johan amadeus myjetski: aall the birdcalls were electronically realized
johan amadeus myjetski: hi Cease!
Cease: HI all
DJTweeny: Yeah, I noticed in the credits something about 'electronic sound effects' or something like that
DJTweeny: Allo Cease
johan amadeus myjetski: yeah, not real birdcalls at all.
Cease: Interesting news from Taylor abourt Millenium trilogy script. I assume that'll use Ossman diary at his suggestion, I turned into a big collage a couple of years back.
Cease: I once had a copy of BDB script. Don't know where I got it or what happened to it.
Cease: Useful for deciphering what the Kongaroo was saying.
johan amadeus myjetski: this music puts me in mind of eric johnson...
Rufus_T_Firetween: Similar style for sure, although Landreth is a little less etherial, more focused on traditional blues like SRV
Cease: Hey Tween. I had the new FIS from either you or Taylor as a zip file which I unzipped and had somewhere. Seems i only have ep 1 and the pre-episode we played a few weeks ago, which required a LOT of editing.
Cease: I have something in my downloads file called FIS as a zip file. I trtied to unzip it today, but it didn't seem to happen. Maybe the zipper was stuck.
Rufus_T_Firetween: haha
Cease: I have the whole series on CDs but the ones in the new series are much shorter.
johan amadeus myjetski: I know it's not, but is the BDB script for "Bozos on Dis Bus"?
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Duluth? Bucko, you can get Tierra del Fuego!"
Cease: My point being, if I find any fucks in the episodes, I won't be able to edit them as the version is different from you'll be playingn
Rufus_T_Firetween: OK Cat, email me to remind me and I'll see that you get a copy
Cease: MY CDs have the ads, your clean FIS doesn't

Cease: It's listed in my file as a zip file and I unzipped it and was I thought, storing the whole thing in a good place, a file called Fools
Cease: who are we listening to?
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Rufus_T_Firetween: That was Sonny Landreth
Cease: Oh great!
||||||||| Merlyn sneaks in around 8:00 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last year's "unpleasant incident."

||||||||| Catherwood ushers Beet in through the front door at 8:00 PM, picks up his cues (only slightly scorched), and heads for the billiard room.
Beet: Howdy, Pardners!
johan amadeus myjetski: amongst the most immoral death scenes?
Cease: HI Beet

Beet: My good buddy RT Choke seems to be OK.
||||||||| Catherwood strides up and intones "Presenting 'Deputy Dang', just granted probation at 8:00 PM", then leaves hurriedly.
Cease: Dang
Deputy Dang: Greetings!
DJTweeny: Howdy Deputy
johan amadeus myjetski: hi Deputy!
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Not Ed close behind, grumbles something about disrupting his 8:00 PM tree-stunting plans, and hurries off to the sitting room.

johan amadeus myjetski: i guess i'm not 'hip' enough to be a knowledgeable person'
johan amadeus myjetski: or to know that
Not Ed: Those who think they know, don't know--but those who know they don't know, know -- proverb
Not Ed: good choice Tweeny I have this but haven't listened in ages
Not Ed: signed by PA!
Rufus_T_Firetween: It's an audience recording, but good enough to be included in BoD

Cease: if i fed it the enitrety of firesign recorded work, then for example all of lenny bruce, my current project.
Cease: couold it make a better collage out of them than me?

llanwydd: who could ask for anything more
Bottles: Mudhead?? Naw, that guy doesn't use Brylcream. He's history.
Cease: sputnik was massively important to my education.
Bottles: A guy that uses Aquanet doesn't cut it with this girl.
Not Ed: AI is the new Sputnik moment - arrived just when we needed it
Not Ed: and just as scary
Not Ed: lol Bots
Bottles: And he whiffs it. Too crazy for me.
Bottles: I'm sticking to airplane glue.
Cease: listened to a forum by Atlantic magazine earlier today about AI. it should be on yoututbe soon. very interesting
Not Ed: Steve Jobs is dead. All hail Elon Musk. Yep, AI came along just in time.
Cease: bottles, do you know lenny bruce's routine about airplane glue?
Not Ed: cool C I want to see it let me know if you can
Cease: he does it on his Steve Allen show appearance.
Bottles: No, never heard that Cease.
Cease: making a collage with Bruce stuff now. probably net ready this month.
Bottles: Lenny Bruce on live TV? That was risky
Cease: i knew his Father Flotsky bit was an inspiration for Electrician, but I had no idea how much.
llanwydd: I know that routine. he did it on the steve allen show
Cease: sgteve allen was a major booster of his. also paul krassner
Not Ed: A cave is just a hole on its side.
||||||||| Rufus_T_Firetween rushes off, saying "8:00 PM? Mark Time is almost on! Where's a radio?"
Cease: when paul started
Bottles: ...and if you dig a cave deep enough, everyone's gonna...

Not Ed: Thanks Ruf
Cease: i barely remember Jack Paar and Steve was before him
llanwydd: did not know SA interviewed fst
Rufus_T_Firetween: The XM series was really well done
Rufus_T_Firetween: and Merlyn had no small part in it :)
Bottles: All I remember about Jack Paar was about the Leper colony in Hawaii
Not Ed: I didn't "get" Paar when I was a kid
Not Ed: Yay Merl
johan amadeus myjetski: steve allen interviewing fst, the intelligence level would cause your television to levitate two feet into the air
Cease: NPR, 1990.
Cease: I've used it MANY times in my collages
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "These insignificant lumps came together..."
Cease: I had to tune in the Seattle station to record it, so, not the best quality
llanwydd: dwight yeast didnt appear very often in the works of fst
Cease: what's happening with fish's radio show, bottles?
Cease: Canadians, eh?

Bottles: I just "finished" a new play. I wanna stretch it to closer to 29 minutes.
Cease: supposed to play Vegas/Egypt and he stars in it. havent heard from him ewither.
Cease: by jam
Bottles: Still no studio. We
Cease: great news, bottles.
Bottles: we're about to start re-runs. Gone a probable site though.
Cease: the vastness of the lenny bruce project subtracts from my other projects
||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
Cease: but i did get some new lines to llan, who did such a great job in Vegas/Eghypt and CAST
Cease: you get them, llan?
Cease: i want to approach some ukranians soon about being in the play.
Not Ed: hug a Ukrainian today
Bottles: Do you know some Ukranian people?
llanwydd: I just checked, cat. I have the new script in my email. is it a new version of the old one or an addition to it?
Cease: no
Not Ed: uh uh no
Cease: i often go to a Ukranain restsaurant when I go downtown, and last time passed out my cards with link to my other plays and said i was casrting new play about Ukranain and needed Uk voices
llanwydd: good iea, cat
Cease: olod script was you as Einstein. This script is the Russian soldier I told you about
llanwydd: idea
Not Ed: neato
Cease: as i asked last week, can you to voices that the listeners doens't confuse
llanwydd: so am I recording both?
llanwydd: that would be kewl
Cease: a couple from UK opened this rest and I want to meet them and talk about the play, see if they're interested.
Cease: they should be as it has a lot about Uk food in it.
Not Ed: lol Phil A
Cease: BUT> i should show them a script. I immerse myself in Uk news daily but I'm stil far away from being confident to talk to real Ukrainians about being in myh play
llanwydd: do you speak any ukrainian, cat
Cease: we can get away with bullshit here, eh, tween?
llanwydd: its all we do
Rufus_T_Firetween: Yeah, BS should be OK
llanwydd: yes barbra streisand is perfectly acceptable
Not Ed: awww babs
Rufus_T_Firetween: It's more about the abuse of language, people just using swear words for effect
Cease: aha
Rufus_T_Firetween: George Carlin is problematic
Rufus_T_Firetween: ** Thanks to RADIO FREE DISHNUTS for providing the streaming server for this show. If you'd like to make a small contribution to help with the server fees, there's a PayPal link to donate here >> http://dishnuts.net

Bottles: Adios Beet
Cease: by beet
Rufus_T_Firetween: please do join us on Tuesday and make requests :)
Not Ed: Beet!
Not Ed: be well & groovy
llanwydd: Cat, I promise I would have everything recorded sometime this month. It may take that long because I lost a crown on an upper incisor and I do not sound the same
llanwydd: I am having it replaced on the 24th
Cease: bummer
Cease: ok august is fine.
llanwydd: should be no later than the end of this month
Cease: i want that great voice from previous 2 plays. now my point being, can your russian soldier be far enough in sound from einstein so the listener is not confuesed?
llanwydd: certainly
Cease: i'm not sure hwich of the russan soliders lines you should do, but if you read them all, doc and I can decide.
llanwydd: sure
Cease: i have heard your voice enough that i can hear you doing those lines as i write them
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "I only lie, or I tell the truth. Heh - just lyin'."
Cease: not that familiar with einstein's voice, but as i recall it was rather high.
Cease: that would work well on radio, as i want the Alex character to have a deeper, unaccented voice.
llanwydd: yes I have listened to a couple of einsteins interviews. I was a bit high
llanwydd: IT was a bit high
Cease: there are two females in the scene, alex's wife effie, a small role, and my mother as a teen ager. not sure on casting here at all
llanwydd: how about elayne?
Cease: she would be a great Effie
Cease: she has a real authority when she speaks. she's been in 3 of my plays, at least
llanwydd: was just looking at the russians lines. he is definitely a far different charqcter from einstein. I should have no problem at all
Cease: great, llan
Cease: he is not one character. i need the russinaq soldiers to be very diffrerent people.
llanwydd: I see
Cease: atg the beginning he's more of a cop. later, he's an officer. at the end he's a leser general
llanwydd: walletectomy! lol
Cease: he just said Firesign Chats
llanwydd: wsexrdctfvgyhunjimklmjuhygtfdwexrdcfvgb
Bottles: Come again llanwydd?
Bottles: Speaking in tongues?
llanwydd: jhb
Cease: he's speaking welsh
llanwydd: no it is an ancient language called bzfgt
llanwydd: it has no puntcuation
Bottles: And no spaces between words, I notice.
llanwydd: and very few words
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Don't worry about the flies, we won't weigh 'em!"
Not Ed: dungeons & drag queens lol
Cease: the entirety of firesign: lol
llanwydd: thats a blast from the past
llanwydd: d and d was rather controversial
Not Ed: only on the 700 club lol
Not Ed: Mazes &
Bottles: Never played D&D.Sounds like it had a huge lollowing.
Not Ed: Mazes & Monsters with Tom Hanks
Not Ed: D&D is a riot
Not Ed: so fun
Cease: never played a video game. likely never will.
Not Ed: it's a verbal tabletop game
Bottles: I found my family tree's website - way back then there were supposedly fictitious ancestors. Names like could have been from D&D.
Not Ed: not a computer game--though D&D computer games have been made
Bottles: Swedish back then. names like Erik the Vandel.
Bottles: And Lars The Incontinent
llanwydd: lol
Not Ed: lol
Not Ed: perfect!
llanwydd: even kings had unflattering names in those days
Bottles: "Flora (Fictitious Person) MP your 49th great grandmother Wife of Corsicus, King of the Herulii Mother of Fredebaldus, King of the Herulii"
llanwydd: aethelred the unready, john lackland...
Not Ed: D&D is best played within a heavy cannabis haze
Cease: I think the Vikings were very much involved with the first Ukranians, as it were
Bottles: Like why is that? Was someone playing role playing games with the family tree..
Cease: i dislike games
Cease: althugh this chat evolved from a game
Cease: Elayne was involved with.
Bottles: Evolved from a game?? Cool.
Not Ed: I made games 4 ever - computer games for 20 years
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Scene 3 - Take 600"
Cease: i would ask her but she has forgotten.
Not Ed: One of the most difficult tasks men can perform, however much others may despise it, is the invention of good games. (Carl Jung)
Bottles: That's awesome Not Ed.
Not Ed: tx
Cease: this was 94. role playing firesign game. she wanted me to playh a doc technical character. i was not so inclined
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "The future ain't here yet, man!"
Not Ed: the FT guys all worked in games --especially PP
Bottles: It might be fun to create music for games.
Cease: tghen Elayne and Steve came to visit me in early 95 and we drove down to visit Ossman and then the Firesign chat came into existence. thanks, el
Not Ed: computer games, I mean
Not Ed: that's one of the things I did, Bots (musician for 20 years before games)
||||||||| It's 12:45 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| johan amadeus myjetski - dead from Globner's disease
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
llanwydd: how do they connect harry chapin with tea for the tillerman?
Not Ed: lol effortlessly
Bottles: Not Ed I downloaded Cakewalk to compose. But using it's music notation is hit or miss. It's like it wants to edit what you write.
Bottles: So I have to listen what it writes down, and see if it's worth keeping. Like AI.
Cease: "folk singers"
Rufus_T_Firetween: What PPQ setting are you using Bottles?
Not Ed: I worked with Cakewalk for years & years but mostly back in the MIDI daze
Rufus_T_Firetween: (Pulse Per Quarter Note)
Bottles: I don't even know what PPQ is Rufus
Rufus_T_Firetween: ^^
Not Ed: lol
Rufus_T_Firetween: It's the resolution of the MIDI recording
Bottles: Oh. It's so far over my head, I don't know.
Cease: comdy consultants
Not Ed: I'm the fool who misses magnetic tape
Bottles: What setting would be optimum?
Rufus_T_Firetween: Yeah, you might want to check that out in the Preferences, because if it's low resolution then the program will move your notes where you didn't intend them
Bottles: Oh OK.
Not Ed: something like Audacity has a fairly easy "top layer"
Rufus_T_Firetween: I've been using 480ppq since Mac Performer in 1986
Rufus_T_Firetween: but you can do much better now
Not Ed: ahh ruf
Bottles: Yeah I use Audacity, Garage Band, since my iMac with ProTools died.
Rufus_T_Firetween: My C-64 program had only 64ppq, so no matter what you played it sounded really mechanica
Not Ed: oh okay yeah there you go
Rufus_T_Firetween: *mechanical
Not Ed: I still use one of my C-64's to listen to game title themes true!
Bottles: The viols sound good on Cakewalk.
Tweeny: Setting the MIDI timing resolution - https://gaga.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Music%20Creator%206%20Touch&language=3&help=Recording.08.html
Not Ed: Here's an example - the SID chip has three channels and a noise channel https://youtu.be/MzCQg9u_8lE
Tweeny: The C-64 was a real breakthrough in hardware for the money, to be sure
Not Ed: I captured it and uploaded it - decent quality - audio only
Tweeny: a $200 computer with color and an audio chip was unheard of at the time
Not Ed: Rob Hubbard was amazing wit C64 game music
Not Ed: the C64's SID chip helped sell the C64

Cease: Off we flit
Bottles: Yea, that sounds like it.
||||||||| At 8:00 PM, Deputy Dang vanishes mysteriously -- just as Nino the Mind Boggler predicted!
llanwydd: nite everybody
||||||||| Cease hurries out the back door as Mayor P'nisnose blasts through the front door holding a shotgun and shouting "Where's Cease?! It's 8:00 PM and my ballot boxes haven't been stuffed yet!"
||||||||| Catherwood says "8:00 PM, time for SOMEONE to leave!", grabs llanwydd by the collar and gives 'em the old bum's rush out the door
Merlyn: nitr all
||||||||| At 8:00 PM, Merlyn runs out the door saying "Hey, mister ice-cream man, I've got a nickel, wait for meeeee..."
||||||||| Bottles runs out the back door as Mayor P'nisnose blasts through the front door holding a shotgun and shouting "Where's Bottles?! It's 8:00 PM and my ballot boxes haven't been stuffed yet!"
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| It's 1:15 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Termite - dead from jaundice
||||||||| Beet - dead from the yaws
||||||||| Not Ed - dead from the common cold
||||||||| Rufus_T_Firetween - dead from the fiddlers
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| It's 1:30 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| DJTweeny - dead from jaundice
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 2 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| Tweeny says "Catherwood, call me a cab." After the obvious joke, Tweeny exits at 8:00 PM.
||||||||| Catherwood enters, and announces to all and sundry "It's 4:31 AM, time to change the log file and clean out unused rooms; please exit the chat room for a minute or two. Thank you for your patience."
