||||||||| Miguel tiptoes in around 9:32 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last week's "unpleasant incident."
Cease: Hi Miguel
||||||||| Catherwood escorts Johan Amadeus Myjetski in through the front door at 9:36 PM, picks up his cues (only slightly scorched), and heads for the billiard room.
Cease: Jammy!
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : HolaHi, everybody! I have been following the balls when they make the street!
Cease: Don't get bowled over.
Cease: Are you a Firesign fan, Miguel?
DJTweeny: Hi Miguel, Johan
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : 15hours in the saddle yesterday & today, & 9 more tomorrow
Cease: You're a cowboy?
DJTweeny: long trail
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Yeah, my war pony is a Prius!
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Just walked into my motel room for tonight
Cease: I was a cowboy for a couple of days in the summer of 67.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : I actually lived & worked on a working cattle farm for about 8 years
Cease: 2 days was enough for me.
Cease: After Expo 67, I travelled accross Canada and spent a week-end visitng a cousin who's husband was in charge of the Mantiobe provincial cattle heard.
Cease: As I knew how to ride a horse, I had to help him move the cows around.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Ours was only 135 head, herefords & black angus.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : We worked ours on foot (just 175 acres)
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : All hale John & Groucho!
Cease: And living people too
Cease: What are you doing now, Jam?
Cease: I asked Austin about Free High Schools.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Fetching my gear from a storage unit in Memphis so I can set up a rudimentary recording studio to finish up a new collaboration project
Cease: Stuck inside of Memphis with the Mobile blues again?
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Back at my place in the North Carolina mountains
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 10 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : That’s is exactly, cat!
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Stuck in the Memphis heat, 100+F today, heat index way more. About killed me.
Cease: Never been to that part of the world
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : High humidity, high heat in summer. Where i’m living in NC, it seldom gets over 85*F
Cease: Vancouver is quite temperate. No serious heat all summer.
Cease: Great to hear Paul's voice again.
Cease: He was a creature created by Tolkein.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : How do you think it makes me feel, Dimitri?
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Sheer genius, Dr. Strangelove
Cease: I remember seeing that movie with my parents in a theatre.
Cease: Coming out of the theatre was very strange.
Cease: This wasn't long after the Cuban missile crisis.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : I remember the Cuban missile crisis. The first night my folks let me stay up past 10pm. I used this rare freedom to watch the original Bela Lugosi Dracula.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : That was that Oct 2wnd
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Oct 22nd
Cease: I did a collage about it called Nukes. It's in the archives, if you haven't heard it.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Yes, I caught it. It was a moment when we truly believed the world could well end
Cease: My father certainly thought so.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : My parents also
Cease: And he was in the hospital when his regiment went to Dieppe and got slaughtered.
DJTweeny: Kruscev and JFK kept sane heads when their military wanted WWIII
Cease: Just watched Slaughterhouse 5 again. All that World War 2 experience.
DJTweeny: or yeah, the world would have died
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : That’s it precisely
Cease: Not the world, jsut the living things on it, down to a bacterial level.
DJTweeny: JFK was killed and Kruschev was disgraced and removed from power
DJTweeny: There is a movie of Slaughterhouse 5?
Cease: Yes. It's as good as the book.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : This was the first 45 i ever bought!
DJTweeny: will have to look for that
Cease: Frist Beatles song I liked.
Cease: I got it from the local library. Amazing. Think I'll watch it again.
DJTweeny: Well, it's small crowd tonight, but great material as always
Cease: When I first saw it in a theatre, long ago, Prague stands in for Dresden and it made me want to go to Prague.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Yes a very faithful version. Hilarious in parts, profound in others. Glen Gould sountrack!
Cease: Yes, our Glen.
DJTweeny: Hard to believe that Vonnegut was from Indiana
Cease: Just like Phil.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : I described Vonnegut as a cross between Mark Twain & Frank Zappa
Cease: I like that.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Slaughterhouse Five is an inexpensive DVD if you look for it. I’ve seen it at walmart for $5
DJTweeny: not bad
DJTweeny: Breakfast Of Champions is great
Cease: Vonnegut has a lot of great stuff.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : God Bless You, Mr Rosewater
DJTweeny: true
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : One of his last, maybe the last was a curious one. Called Harrison Bergeron, is adout mind control via a video game
Cease: Must look for that.
DJTweeny: Cat's Cradle
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : PBS ran a film version years ago, but haven’t ever seen it on Dvd
DJTweeny: yeah, don't know that one
||||||||| Catherwood tosses another cheese log on the fire and intones, "If you want to keep the cornstarch off your mukluks this season, buy a hoodie or a sweatshirt at the Firesign corner Cafepress store."
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : I liked Sirens of Titan
Cease: I liked everything I've read by him.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Same here
Cease: I just mentioned Katherine Kuhlman last week.
Cease: Inspiration for the beginning of Dwarf.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Also in a very real sense, a valuable 20th century American philosopher
Cease: Which sense is this?
||||||||| Catherwood tosses another cheese log on the fire and intones, "If you want to keep the cornstarch off your mukluks this season, buy a hoodie or a sweatshirt at the Firesign corner Cafepress store."
Cease: Mitfch Harding had a different radio name, forget what it was.
Cease: The Voice of KPFK at one time.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Well, Vonnegut is not included is academic philosophy clsses.
Cease: Oh, Vonnegut. I thought you meant Katherine Kuhlman was valuable.
Cease: Only in the sense that she inspired Dwarf.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : In the sense of ‘officially’ recognized as
Cease: Vonnegut is someone I told my daughter to read.
Cease: There is strange UFOish noise in the back ground
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : I told my high school english teacher he should read Vonnegut!
Cease: Everybody should read Vonnegut.
DJTweeny: We should have a new show next week, and I'll try to get the guy who brought FST to Bloomington, IN recently set up so he can do shows too
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : I remember your mentioning Katherine K. Last week
DJTweeny: excellent Johan :)
Cease: Le Guin was my favourite. PKD and many others but only only one I reccomeded to my daughter was Vonnegut.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Sounds like quite a muse
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : LeGuin - i loved Lathe of Heaven, but couldn’t connect with her other work.
Cease: Two more episodes of my 50s series. Then, it's Ways of Seeing turned into Firesign attched audio product.
Cease: You didn't get into Earthsea?
Cease: John Berger BBC series from I think 72. Check it out on youtube.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : Strangely, no. I think i read a dozen or so pages & put it down. I’ve only done that with a very few books, usually I'll finish it
Cease: NOt the book, the BBC series.
Cease: I haven't read the book but the TV series blew me away.
Johan Amadeus Myjetski : I’ll have to look for that.
Cease: Watch a LOT of BBC art series on our Knowledge Network.
