DJTweeny: nice :)
DJTweeny: You put the album cover on a t-shirt?
Thunderbird2319: yea
Cease: what a great idea!
Thunderbird2319: ive made 2. i put the backside of "bozos" on another
Cease: Did you ever see the Firesigns live? They would really have loved to see that shirt
Thunderbird2319: no, I'm really young and i found them not too long ago. i wish i could see them
DJTweeny: Great that some young folks have discovered FST :)
Cease: If you're in the Seattle area, the remaining Firesigns are going to perform there soon.
Thunderbird2319: it was pure chance that i stumbled upon them, thanks to proctor.
Cease: That is wonderful.
DJTweeny: Nino has him in Texas
DJTweeny: You met Proctor?
Thunderbird2319: No, I'm just a late 90s/early 2000s kid who found his filmography. He had a lot of cool roles in disney/early pixar movies
Cease: Phil is amazingly social. He was my intro into the group
Thunderbird2319: so i googled him and found the firesigns and fell in love
Cease: Wow.
Cease: How about you, nativetexan. you're new here too, right?

Thunderbird2319: I want to introduce more young people the the fst, i don't want it to be forgotten
Cease: You might want to email him about how you discovered Firesigns from his film roles.
Thunderbird2319: does anyone read Planet Proctor?
Not Ed: Hey Cease, Hey Tweeny
Not Ed: Absolutely T-bird
Cease: I think he's much prouder of his film/stage work than his Firesign work. Acting is very much his life.
Not Ed: By email
Cease: Yes
Thunderbird2319: oh yes. You can tell he is a true-to-heart thespian
Not Ed: Hey Betty, nativetex
Not Ed: from the Isle of Thespos
Cease: HIs book is also an audiobook. You can hear him read it. It's like a new Firesign album
Not Ed: Yeah it's great
Thunderbird2319: Yeah its really cool
DJTweeny: Hi Note Ed
Betty Jo: Wasn't there going to be a Cheese Log Throw? Or did I miss it?
DJTweeny: *Not

Cease: Everyone who likes Firesign would enjoy the book.
DJTweeny: Ah, for got about all the Pixar stuff he did. He was a character in Rug Rats
Not Ed: Ruf Ruf
Thunderbird2319: I was late to Rug Rats so it wasn't my thing but i love his pixar characters
Not Ed: Isn't Phil P's audiobook being rereleased or....?
DJTweeny: nativetexan is from a Music IRC channel I frequent
Not Ed: Can't find it except for the SueMedia link
Thunderbird2319: they even named one of his characters after him
DJTweeny: Yes Ed, soon
Not Ed: Oh cool thanks T

||||||||| Bill Sprawl pokes his head in through the window and shouts "MARCHING TO SHIBBOLETH! Click to order!"
DJTweeny: hahaha Ed
Thunderbird2319: Have y'all told Siri "this is worker speaking, hello"? try it
DJTweeny: A FST easter egg in there?
Thunderbird2319: Oh yes its wonderful
Cease: Proctor brags about that A LOT
Thunderbird2319: Steve Jobs was a fst fan and put that in there
||||||||| Betty Jo departs at 9:37 PM, singing "Toad away, toad away; toad away, toad away! Where do you go when you're toad away?"
Not Ed: My nuncle lives in Flotsam's Mistake....
Thunderbird2319: shortness of pants
Not Ed likes funny spores.
Cease: one of my favourite of all their bits
Cease: i got to play this on the national radio station of japan.
DJTweeny: Did the Japanese talk with you about FST?
Cease: indeed
DJTweeny: cool
Cease: you have to have a very high english ability to get them, and a few of them do. particualry those who;'ve lived in english speaking countries for awhile
DJTweeny: yeah, that would be true
Cease: a guy i knew who owned a record companyh wanted all his engineers to listen to dwarf.
Thunderbird2319: It's hard for any newbie to understand them
DJTweeny: You'd have to know the words they were twisting ;)
Cease: to learn from its production
Cease: none of them spoke more than rudimentary english.
Thunderbird2319: I was struggling and then I started to get it with "Dear Friends"
DJTweeny: Hey, I started listening to the in the early 70s, and to this day I'm still discovering things in their recordings
Cease: yes, df is a good introduction.
DJTweeny: Dear Friends is a little more accessable than some of their albums
Thunderbird2319: Thats the cool thing, i feel like it will always have something new in store for me
DJTweeny: The Shoes For Industry collection is also a good intro
Thunderbird2319: No one else has the patience to learn to love them like i did and thats a shame
Cease: ive been listening to them since they started, and keep finding new stuff
Thunderbird2319: nowadays at theast
Thunderbird2319: *least
DJTweeny: It's not 'light comedy'
Cease: i hear the young generation is having trouble with that, all this instant stuff you have now.
Cease: lol tween.
Rufus_T_Firetween: ** Check out the video of David Ossman and Phil Proctor at the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS >> http://www.loc.gov/today/cyberlc/feature_wdesc.php?rec=8134&loclr=eanw
Cease: but it rewards your attention.
Thunderbird2319: yeah. Oversaturated in obvious stuff.
DJTweeny: that it does
Thunderbird2319: that it does. I'm glad i didn't get frustrated and give up
Cease: good for you, thunder. literally
DJTweeny: Also, the production is very high quality, and it's great to listen on a set of headphones as you would a good rock album
Thunderbird2319: thats good too
Thunderbird2319: an unpopular opinion in popular times
Rufus_T_Firetween: ** Dr. Happy Harry Cox says “I was right about the comet! Check out my new DVD set EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG: THE DECLASSIFIED FIRESIGN THEATRE 1968-1975 before it’s too late!!” >> https://firesigntheatrelegacy.com/firesale/firesale.php
Thunderbird2319: *populous
DJTweeny: right
Cease: they considered themselves the beatles of comedy, and certainly competed for use of production techniques with what george martin was doing
DJTweeny: Unlike anything that was being done with comedy at the time
Thunderbird2319: or has been done since
DJTweeny: Weird Al's production value is excellent, but I haven't across any radio theatre that comes close in terms of complexity
DJTweeny: *haven't come across
Cease: now have i, tween.
Thunderbird2319: It's certainly a special kind of art
Cease: nor
Rufus_T_Firetween: ** Check out the New Live Concert Collection “FIGHTING CLOWNS OF HOLLYWOOD” at Firesign's new Download Store >> https://firesigntheatre.bandcamp.com/releases
Thunderbird2319: "i think you're leaking"
Thunderbird2319: one of my favorites
Thunderbird2319: anyone wanna share how they found the FST?
Cease: i was in high school. a friend told me to listen to a popular rock station, KRLA on Sunday nght. I tuned in and there they were.
DJTweeny: I had a friend in High School who had several of their albums because his father was a music reviewer for the NYT
Cease: This was April, 1967
Thunderbird2319: wow
Cease: i htink they targeted high school/university students.
DJTweeny: We listened on headphones, and it was of course quite surreal. I'd never heard anything like it before
DJTweeny: circa 1972
Rufus_T_Firetween: ** Thanks to RADIO FREE DISHNUTS for providing the streaming server for this show – http://dishnuts.net
Thunderbird2319: yeah the counterculture was their audience
DJTweeny: Yeah, that's great that you heard the original radio broadcasts Cease :)
DJTweeny: Cat's early recordings have been used in some of FST's compilations
DJTweeny: because no one else had the tapes from that era
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 10 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Cease: My parents had a tape recorder before I was born so I grew up with them.
Cease: So did Proctor, as he relates in his book.
DJTweeny: that's great
Cease: i think they were very much creators of the counterculture.
Thunderbird2319: they helped throw gas on that flame
Cease: that they did
DJTweeny: Hope you can become a regular here, Thunderbird, and do tell your friends
DJTweeny: Small crowd tonight but we usually get more people
Thunderbird2319: I will be. I leave for basic military training on april 16th and will be gone for about two months but i plan to be back as sson as i can
Thunderbird2319: *soon
Thunderbird2319: I'll also try to see if i can get more people here ;)
Cease: have you heard phil austin and peter bergman's tales of their days in the army?
Thunderbird2319: no but I'll definitely check it out
Cease: the firesigns became quite popular in vietnam.
DJTweeny: for some strange reason, Hoover didn't like them ;)
Cease: lol
Cease: You still here, Not?
Thunderbird2319: lets invite over a bunch of immigrants
